In its first year, society members stayed busy raising $4,710 for the American Cancer Society, donating books to a Katy-area youth organization and raising money for a Kenyan school. Members also spent time getting to know each other outside of the classroom and recruiting new members.
“As new officers, we really appreciate everything the founding officers and our university counselors did to get Alpha Zeta Lambda started,” Kelly said. “They did a great job initiating a large group of members so we’re able to focus on professional development and service projects for our members.”
The new officers are meeting soon to start planning the society’s schedule before school officially starts, Kelly said.
First on their agenda is initiating new members in September. Invitations to join are extended to education majors who have completed 30 semester hours or more and have at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

The officers then will focus on meetings and projects for the honor society. Some of the activities proposed include professional development to prepare for teaching in the classroom, organizing study groups and service projects like Relay for Life and a school supplies drive.
"Being a member of the honor society is beneficial for students because they are part of a prestigious group that helps the community, networks with educators and gains leadership skills," Kuhar said.
“We look forward to adding new members and building new friendships in the coming year,” Kuhar said.
