UHV and VC to Celebrate Fiesta Day

The University of Houston-Victoria and Victoria College have jointly announced another gala fiesta to celebrate the culture of the Latino community in our area. The festivities will take place outdoors on the campuses of UHV and VC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.

The annual event will feature a musical performance by an indigenous Peruvian group “Wayanay Inka” who has established a firm international reputation for its fine cultural music. Other activities taking place include an art exhibit, musical performances by mariachis, and cultural dance performances by local Ballet Folklorico groups.

“We welcome and invite community members to join us at Fiesta Day,” said Danny Ochoa, chair of the committee responsible for organizing the event. “This celebration continues to grow each year and it’s great to see so many people enjoying the music, the fun, and most of all, the delicious food.”

UHV President Dr. Tim Hudson added, “UHV wants to continue taking a lead role in producing the future leaders of the Hispanic community in our area. We want to make sure that members of this important and growing demographic know that our doors are open to them. One way to do that is by demonstrating interest, respect and openness to their culture and heritage.”

Admission to Fiesta Day is free and open to the public. Lunch may be purchased at the event and allows participants to select from a buffet featuring taquitos, tamales, nachos, aguas frescas and other Mexican delights prepared on site by student groups and other “Friends of Fiesta Day.”
