UHV takes home 14 awards for advertising creative excellence
The University of Houston-Victoria won three of the top awards of the night and 11 other prestigious ADDY awards Friday for its creative advertising and marketing work in 2013.
UHV won the awards at the American Advertising Federation-Victoria ADDY Awards Gala at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The university’s top awards were Best of Integrated Campaign – Special Event Materials Campaign and Website, Best of Design and Best of Student Design.
“I am delighted that UHV received this recognition for its creative marketing materials,” said Paula Cobler, UHV director of marketing and communications. “This is a tremendous accomplishment for the talented and creative staff members we have at the university.”
The Best of Integrated Campaign award was for the university’s 2012-2013 Anniversary of Excellence Annual Report, which can be viewed at www.uhvannualreport.com. Members of the UHV Marketing & Communications Department who worked on the annual report website and event pieces were Cobler; Melody Vecera, creative services manager; Amberley Gutierrez and George Rodriguez, graphic designers; Jeremy Shapiro and Katy Walterscheidt, communications specialists; Lonnie Holcombe, Web developer; Della Rampley, administrative secretary; and Hannah Crone, student worker. Nancy Gresham, UHV special events coordinator; and Michael Cloud, owner of Bright Idea Media, also worked on the project.
“I’m thrilled the Anniversary of Excellence annual report was so well received during the ADDYs since this is a project we all work together on each year,” Vecera said.
The Best of Design award went to Gutierrez for a poster promoting the “Escape from Camp 14” Community of Readers book.
The Best of Student Design award went to Veronica Gonzalez for posters promoting the Spring 2013 UHV/American Book Review Reading Series. Gonzalez was an ABR fellow at the time she designed the posters and is working toward her Master of Science in Publishing from UHV. Jeffrey Sartain, ABR managing editor, served as her adviser. The ADDY Awards is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation. The gold awards UHV won on Friday will be automatically entered in the District ADDY Awards competition. District winners then compete in the national ADDY Awards competition. In 2013, one of UHV’s entries won an award at the district level.
The ADDYs are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition for creative excellence.
