Learn how to find grants at free VC/UHV Library workshop
Board members and staff of Crossroads nonprofit agencies are invited to a May 2 Victoria College/University of Houston-Victoria Library workshop about how to identify new funding sources.
Introduction to Finding Funders will take place from 11 a.m. to noon in Room 106 of the VC/UHV Library, 3602 N. Ben Jordan St. The workshop is free, but registration is required and is limited to 24 participants. To sign up, visit www.surveymonkey.com/s/findingfunders.

Amanda Breu, a UHV instruction and outreach librarian, will provide an overview of the funding research process for nonprofits seeking grants from foundations, corporations and grant-making public charities.
“Nonprofits often build relationships with specific foundations or charities and then continue to go back to them for additional funding opportunities,” Breu said. “This workshop is a way for nonprofit organizations to search for grant makers that they might not be aware of to expand their funding potential.”
During the workshop, Breu will demonstrate electronic and print resources available at no cost in the library. One handy resource is the Foundation Directory Online, a database of about 120,000 foundations and corporate donors.
“It’s an easy database to use, so any nonprofit board member, executive director or funding volunteer can work with it,” Breu said.

The library is a Funding Information Network affiliate of the national Foundation Center. As an affiliate, the library holds annual public training to help community members learn about the different products the center offers.
VC/UHV Library Director Joe Dahlstrom said the library is pleased to be affiliated with the Foundation Center and provide free workshops for area nonprofit agencies.
“Nonprofit organizations have limited sources of funds to carry out their missions,” he said. “Other than donations and memberships, a major source of funding is grants. This workshop is designed to offer the basics of finding potential private and public funding sources.”
