Students considering attending the University of Houston-Victoria can get a feel for what life is like at the university by attending Jaguar Day on Feb. 28.

The event features a come-and-go information session in Jaguar Hall from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and tours of the UHV campus and Victoria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to any interested student.

“While we share publications and online information about UHV with prospective students, nothing beats actually coming here for a visit,” said Billy Lagal, associate director of UHV Admissions & Student Recruitment. “By attending Jaguar Day, students and their family members can get a better picture of the university and town as well as talk with staff members about any questions or concerns. There’s no pressure on the potential student. We’re just here to help and show them around.”

The final Jaguar Day of the semester begins with a check-in starting at 10 a.m. in the lobby of Jaguar Hall, 2705 Houston Highway. Representatives from the academic schools, campus offices and student organizations will be at Jaguar Hall to share information and answer questions.

Several student groups also will be on hand to pass along insights about activities occurring at UHV outside the classroom. Jaguar Day participants also can learn about student jobs, purchase Jaguar gear and meet jaX, the university’s Jaguar mascot.

“Jaguar Day is the best chance to learn about what UHV offers because faculty and staff members from all the departments and offices are in the same place at the same time,” Lagal said. “I would encourage any student who has applied or is considering applying to spend a few hours seeing how they can make their mark at UHV.”
