UHV giving away tickets to TCL All-Star Game

Area residents can now pick up tickets for a free night at the ballpark featuring the top players in a summer collegiate baseball league and prizes from the University of Houston-Victoria.

The Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game presented by the UHV Jaguars will start at 7:05 p.m. July 7 at Riverside Stadium. A home run derby kicks off the action at 6:05 p.m.

Fans attending the game will receive a UHV giveaway at the gate. Those who wear a UHV shirt will be entered to win special prizes during the game.

“We are inviting people from across the Crossroads to join us for what will be a fun night of baseball, games and giveaways,” UHV Interim President Vic Morgan said. “I’m confident fans will enjoy seeing the best college players in the TCL in an entertaining, family friendly atmosphere.”

The TCL is a collegiate summer wooden bat league consisting of six teams – including the Victoria Generals. Players excelling during the first half of the season are selected for the All-Star Game. Last season, eight Generals players were chosen as all-stars, and the players participating in Tuesday’s game will be announced soon.

“The All-Star Game is always one of the highlights of the summer,” said Mike Yokum, vice president and general manager of the Victoria Generals. “We are excited to partner with UHV to bring this event back to Victoria. It would be fantastic to have a big crowd to make the night even more special for the players.”

Terry Puhl, UHV baseball coach and former Houston Astros player, will throw out the first pitch. James Martinez, UHV alumnus and Port Lavaca police chief, will sing the national anthem. jaX, UHV’s jaguar mascot, will greet fans before the game and participate in a contest between innings.

Area residents can pick up free All-Star Game tickets by visiting the kiosk on the first floor of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St., during normal business hours. Free tickets also are available in downtown Victoria at the Convention and Visitors Bureau or the City of Victoria Public Information Office. Both are located at 702 N. Main St.
