UHV distributes free tickets to Wednesday’s Victoria Generals game

The University of Houston-Victoria is inviting area residents to Riverside Stadium Wednesday for a free night of baseball, giveaways and contests.

UHV Night at the Victoria Generals will be Wednesday at Riverside Stadium. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. against the Woodlands Strykers.

“UHV Night at the Generals is a chance to kick back and enjoy a night of baseball and camaraderie,” UHV Interim President Vic Morgan said. “Whether you are a baseball fan or just want a fun night out, I invite you to pick up your free tickets and join us at the ballpark.”

Fans will receive a UHV giveaway at the gate. They also can take part in games and contests between innings throughout the evening. jaX, UHV’s jaguar mascot, will be on hand to greet the crowd and participate in a game.

The Generals play in the Texas Collegiate League, a collegiate summer wooden bat league consisting of teams from Texas and Louisiana. While the Generals don’t have any UHV baseball players on the roster this season, there are several players with ties to Victoria and the surrounding area.

The squad has two Victoria East graduates who were instrumental in the Titans’ 2014 run to the state title game. Ryan Williams has pitched for the team all summer, while Kyle Craft joined the team earlier this month. Williams is playing at Alvin Community College, while Craft pitches for Wharton County Junior College.

El Campo High School alumnus Bryce Brandl, now an outfielder at St. Mary’s University, is playing for the Generals, as is Chris Jones, a southpaw pitcher from Hallettsville, who attends The University of Incarnate Word.

The Generals also have players from several top college teams in Texas, including University of Texas infielder Travis Jones and pitcher James Swan, and Texas A&M University pitcher Lee May Gonzalez.

Area residents can pick up free Generals tickets at three locations in Victoria during normal business hours.

  • Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau, 702 N. Main St., Suite 101
  • City of Victoria Public Information Office, 702 N. Main St., Suite 113
  • First floor kiosk in the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.
