Light Up the Night honors victims of domestic violence

Attendees of Light Up the Night at the University of Houston-Victoria Tuesday hold battery-powered candles to represent the one in four people who will experience abuse. During the event, Phoenix Johnson also read from her book, “The Phoenix Factor: Rising from the Ashes of Abuse.” Johnson wrote the book about her experiences after 17 years of domestic abuse and three years of stalking, and she shared a positive and inspiring story of courage and healing as a survivor of domestic violence. The event also included a welcome by UHV Interim President Vic Morgan, a survivor’s account of the impact of domestic abuse and a video presentation.
