UHV to consolidate Greater Houston degree programs to one location
The University of Houston-Victoria will begin offering bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at one location in Katy this fall in addition to its main campus in Victoria.
UHV will continue to offer programs through the summer at UH Sugar Land, the UH System at Cinco Ranch and the Houston Community College Katy campus.
“This move will allow students in Greater Houston to attend UHV classes in one convenient location,” UHV Interim President Vic Morgan said. “Community college transfer students will be able to finish their bachelor’s degree. A variety of master’s degree programs also will be offered at this same location.”
In fall 2014, the UH System began implementing a multi-year plan through which UH would become the sole provider of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at UH Sugar Land. UHV would transition its degree programs from UH Sugar Land to a new site in Katy. The transition was to occur over five years.
UHV administrators decided it would be best to speed up the move to one location in Katy in order to better serve the area more quickly. The process will include increased marketing and recruiting so that the public becomes aware of the higher education opportunities readily available in the Katy area. The Katy Economic Development Corp. is assisting UHV in identifying several locations in Katy where space can be leased, Morgan said.
The move to a leased facility will be for about three years until a permanent UH System teaching center is constructed at a new location in Katy. UHV and other UH System universities will provide degree programs at this new, permanent site.
UH and UHV administrators have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the transition. UH has agreed to provide support to UHV as higher education expands in Katy.
At the temporary Katy location, UHV will offer junior- and senior-level classes for students who want to complete a bachelor’s degree in addition to master's degree programs. UHV also will continue offering online degree programs that undergraduate and graduate students can take from anywhere. UHV’s campus in Victoria provides a residential experience for freshmen and other undergraduate students in addition to graduate degree programs.
The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 80 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
