UHV SBDC to offer QuickBooks workshop series
Crossroads entrepreneurs can learn some of the latest features and uses of QuickBooks accounting software in a series of workshops hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center.
The QuickBooks Series is a set of six weekly workshops about the 2016 version of the software. The series runs every Wednesday from Oct. 26 to Dec. 7 except for Nov. 23.
The first workshop, Introduction to QuickBooks, will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 in UHV University North, Room 110A, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. Attendees can attend a single workshop or all of them, depending on their interest in the covered topics. There is a preregistration fee of $40 for each class or $50 at the door. Attendees also have the option of paying $200 to attend the series.
“This series is tailored for the individual business owner,” UHV SBDC Director Joe Humphreys said. “We want to help the entrepreneur looking to become familiar with QuickBooks or who already has the software and is struggling to understand the mechanics and possibilities of the program.”
The classes will be conducted in a computer lab on campus, and attendees will be able to create a model company to practice using the software. The interactive lessons will involve using QuickBooks as the instructor points out uses and features.
“The hands-on component of the class is attractive to a lot of business leaders,” said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. “They enjoy going step by step to see how to get the most out of the software.”
The first session will provide an introduction to the program. The other workshop dates and topics will be:
- Nov 2 – Setting Up QuickBooks
- Nov. 9 – Creating and Working with Lists
- Nov. 16 – Entering and Paying Bills
- Nov. 30 – Receiving Payments and Making Deposits
- Dec. 7 – Analyzing Financial Data
“The three main goals of our QuickBooks training are to help small business owners improve cash flow, increase net profit and help them have more fun in business,” Humphreys said. “Attendees will be assisted by UHV SBDC instructors, and each session will examine an important feature of the software that will make the financial side of running a business much simpler.”
