UHV to welcome current, prospective students at Katy campus open house

Spring registration for the University of Houston-Victoria is opening soon, and students in the Houston area are invited to an open house to learn more about the new UHV Katy campus.

Current students and students considering transferring to UHV or enrolling in a graduate program are invited to attend the open house from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the UHV Katy campus, 2002 W. Grand Parkway N., Building 2. The university is leasing the third floor of the building – more than 43,000 square feet – to continue serving the higher education needs of the region while a new UH System campus is built nearby at Interstate 10 and Grand Parkway. The new campus eventually will house UHV and UH degree programs.

During the open house on the third floor, students will be able to speak with representatives from several UHV offices, including Admissions, International Programs, Career Services and Financial Aid. There also will be advisors from each of UHV’s academic schools – Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. Students are welcome to tour the building’s facilities, including a library, computer lab, Multi-Purpose Room, classrooms and study areas.

“We realize prospective students have a number of questions about the Katy campus because it is new,” said Denee Thomas, assistant vice president for enrollment management. “This is a time when students can conveniently get all their questions answered at once and learn about the programs available at UHV. Our current students can speak with an advisor to get help registering for classes.”

Vic Morgan

The UHV Katy campus offers courses for transfer and graduate students. Freshman and sophomore courses are offered at UHV’s main campus in Victoria. UHV previously offered programs at two locations in Katy and at UH Sugar Land until this fall, when it consolidated its Greater Houston teaching sites to the new Katy location.

“We want to give students in Greater Houston every chance to explore our new space,” UHV President Vic Morgan said. “We are here to meet the higher education needs of the community.”

The open house coincides with the first week of registration for the spring semester. In addition to the open house, personnel will be available from 2 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14 to 16 at the UHV Katy campus during the Registration Week Event to help students and answer questions. Students are encouraged to bring their transcripts and financial aid documents. Spring registration opens on Nov. 14.
