UHV named to national best online colleges list

National website The Best Schools has included the University of Houston-Victoria in its list of the Top 100 Best Online Colleges for 2017.

David Cockrum

UHV was one of only six Texas institutions to be included in the list. In addition, UHV ranked sixth in the website’s The Best Online Colleges in Texas list.

“UHV heavily emphasizes excellence, affordability and accessibility for all our students,” said David Cockrum, UHV interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Rankings such as these are clear validations of the university’s work.”

When creating the rankings, the website considered several factors, including academic excellence, faculty strength, online teaching methods, tuition, reputation, awards, regional accreditation, financial aid and range of degree programs offered.

UHV earned praise for its wide range of degree programs available online. The Best Schools also cited the university’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accreditation and the UHV School of Business Administration’s accreditation through AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which accredits less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide.

“UHV’s online degree programs offer innovative options for students who are not able to attend traditional college classes,” Cockrum said. “Our instructors always are happy to reach out to students wherever they are and offer an outstanding education through whatever medium fits students’ needs.”
