Record number of students to attend spring graduation
"Commencement is an exciting time for the whole university because it represents the fulfillment of our mission and the culmination of what we all work toward," said Margaret Rice, executive assistant to UHV President Tim Hudson.
This will be UHV's largest group to go through commencement ceremonies. In December, 254 participated, and in May of 2007, 204 were recognized.
UHV Faculty Senate President Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, an associate professor of management, will serve as grand marshal. The UHV school deans will award students their diplomas, and Hudson will confer the degrees. Outstanding students for the spring semester and professors receiving awards for excellence in teaching, research and service also will be recognized.
Presidential candidate and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul will deliver the commencement address.
Paul served in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s but voluntarily relinquished his seat to return to his medical practice. He was elected to Congress again in 1997 to represent the 14th Congressional District of Texas.
As a member of Congress, Paul sits on the House Financial Services Committee, the International Relations Committee and the Joint Economic Committee. On the Financial Services Committee, he serves as the vice chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. He enjoys a national reputation as an advocate for liberty in American politics.
Following the ceremony, a reception for graduates and their guests will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the University Center building.
In the event of bad weather, commencement will be held at 1 p.m. inside Faith Family Church, 2002 E. Mockingbird Lane. If changes are made due to bad weather, information will be available at www.uhv.edu or by calling 361-570-4848 or 877-970-4848.
