UHV International MBA Will Blend Online, Traditional Instruction
Representatives of the University of Houston-Victoria recently traveled to the Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, Mexico, to continue collaborative work begun in 2005. Preparations toward offering a UHV Master of Business Administration through UI were a particular focus of this trip.
UHV President Tim Hudson, Director of Special Projects Vic Padelford and Dean of the School of Business Administration Charles Bullock spent several days working with UI administrators and staff to finalize details for MBA classes scheduled to begin in fall 2006.
“One of the UI computer specialists assisting us during our visit asked several questions about the program, saying he’d be interested in taking classes,” said Bullock upon return. “You know you’re on the right track when the people helping you bring a program online want to take advantage of it.”
The partnership with UI will feature an innovative pooling of faculty and resources. A mix of online and classroom instruction will be required, with 75 percent of the classes taught by UHV faculty and 25 percent by UI instructors. All of the online classes will be taught in English.
Many benefits to the proposed program will result from this structure. UHV and UI students will share the same cyber-classrooms, allowing American students to make valuable contacts with future business leaders in an emerging market. The online format will also provide students with exposure to global business practices while minimizing the time spent away from their jobs.
UHV professors will be able to seek out new research opportunities and collaborations with their Mexican colleagues, increasing their effectiveness in preparing students for multinational corporations that require managers who are familiar not only with business practices of their own country, but with those of countries around the world.
The move toward making an MBA internationally available represents the next step in the UHV School of Business Administration’s development. Already nationally recognized for its online MBA offerings, the school is building a program that integrates the global realities of today’s economy.
The new MBA program is also part of a larger initiative at UHV to increase international education opportunities for its students in accordance with goals set by the University of Houston System, the Texas Senate and the Bush administration.
