Jaguar Days allow prospective students to learn about UHV
The University of Houston-Victoria will welcome about 250 students to campus on Feb. 24 for a look into the college experience during the university’s largest Jaguar Day ever.
Prospective students, including incoming freshmen, transfer and graduate students, will have the opportunity to see firsthand what UHV has to offer. It will be the second of three Jaguar Days that UHV is hosting this school year.
“Jaguar Days give prospective students the opportunity to visit the school and learn all about UHV,” said Billy Lagal, director of Admissions & Student Recruitment. “While they are here, we want the students to network with our faculty, staff and students to see how we can help them continue their education.”
Jaguar Day also is a great opportunity for prospective students to experience the culture of UHV student life and services, student recruitment ambassador Randall Jasek said.
“As a student at UHV, I think it’s important to show prospective students all the organizations, activities and athletics they can become part of,” Jasek said. “Jaguar Days help us to introduce those opportunities while representing the UHV community.”
Jaguar Day will begin with check-in at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of the University North building, 3007 North Ben Wilson St. The event is come-and-go until it closes at 2 p.m. Students interested in attending should preregister.
Students will be able to meet with faculty members from each school and representatives from UHV offices, including Admissions, Career Services, Financial Aid, Recruitment, Residence Life and Student Life. Tables will be set up throughout campus for students to come with questions and have them answered while on their trip.
“We encourage prospective students to come with a list of any question they may have,” Lagal said. “College can be intimidating, and we want the students to feel comfortable to ask and receive answers.”
Souvenirs from the experience will be given to those who wish to take something home. There will be UHV shirts and other merchandise available for sale in Jaguar Hall. UHV’s jaguar mascot, jaX, also will be available for photos.
The final Jaguar Day this school year is planned for April 21.
