UHV offers free tickets for all-star baseball game
Crossroads residents can now get free tickets to a Fourth of July collegiate league all-star baseball game sponsored by the University of Houston-Victoria.
The Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game will take place at Riverside Stadium inside Riverside Park. At 6:05 p.m., the league will hold a home run derby, and the game will begin at 7:05 p.m. Admission is free with an advance ticket. A limited number of free tickets are available on a first come, first served basis.
“UHV is excited to sponsor the All-Star Game,” UHV President Vic Morgan said. “Baseball is a popular sport, and we are glad to offer a free outing for community members to come out and watch America’s favorite pastime.”
Fans will receive UHV giveaways at the gate. They also can take part in games and contests between innings throughout the evening. Those who come wearing a UHV T-shirt will be entered into a drawing to win special prizes during the game. Because the game is taking place on the Fourth of July, patriotic music will be played at different times during the game, and one of the on-field games will be a hot dog eating contest. The national anthem will be sung by Cassie Cameron, a UHV senior double majoring in history and psychology.
The Victoria Generals play in the Texas Collegiate League, a collegiate summer wooden bat league consisting of five teams from Texas and Louisiana. This summer, UHV pitcher Jonathan Jimenez is playing for the Generals.
TCL players who excel during the first half of the season are selected for the All-Star Game. Last season, 11 Generals players were chosen as all-stars, and the players participating in this season’s game will be announced about four days prior to the game.
“This is a great opportunity for residents to see some great up-and-coming talent on the field,” said Mike Yokum, Victoria Generals vice president and manager. “The home run derby always is a fan favorite, and we’ll have some fun audience-participation games during the All-Star Game. It’s going to be a great night.”
Area residents can pick up tickets before July 4 at three locations in Victoria during regular business hours.
