UHV professor presents paper in Austria

Mel Damodaran, a professor of math and computer science at the University of Houston-Victoria, recently traveled to Linz, Austria, to present a paper at the International Conference on Information Integration and Web-Based Application Services.
“It was quite an honor to be invited to come all the way to Austria to present the paper to such a distinguished audience,” he said.
Damodaran presented “Security in Web 2.0 Application Development” to a crowd of international researchers and industry practitioners at the late-November conference organized by the Association of Computer Machinery at Johannes Kepler University.

The paper will be printed in the published proceedings of the conference. Damodaran wrote the piece with computer information systems graduate student Adam Noureddine.
The paper has its origin in an independent study at UHV conducted by Noureddine and overseen by Damodaran.
“It was a privilege to write the paper with Dr. Damodaran,” Noureddine said. “The professor has his own interesting way of challenging students to go beyond merely acquiring information. He encourages both examining the validity of the material and contributing to it.”
The article presents a critical evaluation of some of the known security and reliability issues in Web 2.0-based application development. The researchers reviewed relevant literature and performed a detailed technical examination of the claims of possible security risks.
“Dr. Damodaran and Mr. Noureddine are both credits to his department and this school as a whole,” said Jeffrey Di Leo, dean of the UHV School of Arts & Sciences. “Their work will help build UHV’s international research reputation.”
