Website names UHV’s graduate business degree one of top 10 in Texas
The University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration recently was recognized by national website Online MBA Today for offering one of the top 10 online Master of Business Administration degrees in Texas, thanks to factors including affordability, accreditation and prestige.
UHV was ranked 10th on the website’s Top Online MBA Programs in Texas list. Twenty-five universities were included on the list.
“From the beginning, UHV’s online program has been one of the best in the country,” said Jifu Wang, associate dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. “The university’s leadership understands the importance of offering quality, accessible courses, so online students will have an experience comparable to students in face-to-face classes.”
The website ranked the online MBA programs using four main categories: affordability, accreditation, graduates’ average base salary and the program’s prestige. Salary information was collected from the 2018 Best Business Schools Ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Each program’s prestige was calculated using educational ranking systems from organizations such as the Princeton Review, Financial Times, U.S. News & World Report, and Quacquarelli Symonds.
The ranking gave schools a range of affordability labels from very affordable to very expensive. UHV’s program was one of the schools listed as very affordable. When considering accreditation, the university was recognized for its regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges as well as the UHV School of Business Administration’s accreditation by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which accredits less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide.
“One of the requirements to be accredited by AACSB International is to have a clear map for continuous improvement,” Wang said. “That keeps our school constantly focused on moving forward and staying up to date on offering the best business education we can.”
UHV works to make sure every faculty member is well prepared to offer quality online teaching because many of the university’s MBA students are working professionals who need the flexibility an online program offers, Wang said. With that in mind, new faculty members are given special training, and many of the MBA program’s graduates have been promoted after completing UHV’s program.
“There are a lot of people in the Houston area and beyond who have reached vice president positions thanks to what they learned through our program,” Wang said. “We shift the focus from acquiring knowledge to building practical skills that can be applied in real-world business situations. And every year, we bring some of our most successful alumni back to the university to talk with our students.”
