UHV Giving Tuesday offers chance to invest in university’s future

The third annual University of Houston-Victoria Giving Tuesday is expected to be bigger and better than ever this year with a local business offering a challenge match for donations.

KMH Wealth Management LLC, owned by Lane and Phyllis Keller and Kyle Noack, agreed to donate $5,000 if the fundraiser generates 150 or more donors on UHV Giving Tuesday. Lane is a member of the UHV President’s Regional Advisory Board, and Phyllis is a UHV alumna.

“We are grateful for the support we already have received from local businesses for UHV Giving Tuesday,” said Kira Mudd, UHV director of alumni relations and annual giving. “We are especially excited about Tuesday's fundraiser because of KMH Wealth Management’s challenge. We hope donors will take advantage of this opportunity to generate even more support to the university.”

The university will host its 24-hour fundraising campaign starting at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and ending at 11:59 p.m. that day. The fundraiser encourages all supporters of UHV, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, corporations and other community members, to make a donation to the university fund of their choice. Some of these funds include those for each UHV school, the General Scholarship Fund, Student Food Pantry and many others.

“A majority of our staff members are UHV alumni, and that has helped our business achieve the great success we have had,” said Kyle Noack, managing director of KMH Wealth Management. “The investment we make in current students will result in top-notch students entering the area’s workforce, which also will contribute to the success of our community.”

UHV Giving Tuesday donations to the university can be made by calling 361-570-4812, going to the secure website www.uhvconnect.org/donations or stopping by a UHV giving station set up on the UHV campus and at several local businesses, including The Box Coffee Bar and Chick-fil-A, owned by UHV alumni David and Tammy Murphy.

Chick-fil-A’s giving station will be set up from 7 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Whispering Creek location, 6104 N. Navarro St., and those who make a $10 or more donation will receive a Chick-fil-A swag bag and a free cup of coffee. The Box Coffee Bar also will host a giving station from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at its location, 2916 N. Laurent St., and each donor will receive UHV swag and a sample of UHV Jaguar Blend coffee, exclusively roasted for UHV by Victoria Coffee Roasters.

Donations from the campaign will help fund a variety of programs and scholarships at UHV, Mudd said. Last year, UHV raised more than $15,000 in donations on UHV Giving Tuesday, and UHV University Advancement hopes to set a new record this year.

“The support will help provide educational opportunities to our students, many of whom are local, which also supports the advancement of our community,” Mudd said.
