UHV LEAD Advisory Board Established

The Letting Education Achieve Dreams initiative at the University of Houston-Victoria recently established an advisory board composed of education professionals from the area. Board members will provide guidance to LEAD as it continues to pursue its mission of increasing the educational attainment rate of residents in the Coastal Bend region through campus visits, parent presentations, a mentoring program, ambassador presentations and informational events highlighting financial aid application procedures.

The board held its first meeting on Wednesday, March 1. Board members are Michael Poynor, Yoakum ISD superintendent; Dr. Wayne Taylor, Wharton County Junior College dean of student services; Larry Nichols, Calhoun ISD superintendent; Henry Lind, Cuero ISD superintendent; and Carolyn Gordon, El Campo ISD superintendent, Dr. Margaret Rice, UHV executive director of student services and regional outreach; Dr. Claudia Iselt, Victoria ISD interim superintendent; Rachel Trevino-Garcia, UHV director of student development; Tracey Gleghorn, Austwell-Tivoli High School principal; and Tracey Moore-Sweeney, UHV grants facilitator.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973, offers courses leading to 70 bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degree programs and concentrations in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
