“Commencement is the best thing we get to do each year,” UHV President Bob Glenn said. “I always look forward to watching the students’ faces as they walk across the stage and as they see their friends and family. It is the culmination of all the work and effort put in by our students, along with our faculty and staff, and is a joyous occasion for everyone involved in the process.”

The commencement address will be given by Christine Hollinden, founding principal of Hollinden | marketers + strategists in Houston. For the past 25 years, Hollinden has helped professional services firms distinguish themselves from the pack. She has earned industry recognition and status as a strategist and speaker on a variety of marketing and social media topics.

Hollinden earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1985 from UHV and serves as a member of the university’s Campaign Leadership Committee. She also was the keynote speaker at a 2013 UHV Bachelor of Business Administration Conference in that was attended by undergraduate business students.

The Honorable Andrew Teoh will bring greetings on behalf of the UH System Board of Regents, and Paula Myrick Short, UH System senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, will bring greetings on behalf of UHS administration. Deshavian Williams, UHV Student Government Association president, will lead the moment of silence.

Jeffrey Cass, UHV Faculty Senate president, will serve as grand marshal of the ceremony, and Camilla Sutton, UHV Staff Council chair, will give the welcome. The deans of each of UHV’s three schools will present the candidates for degrees from their respective schools. In addition, the outstanding students from each school will be recognized by David Cockrum, UHV interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. UHV President Bob Glenn will confer the degrees.

LaQuitta DeMerchant, a UHV Class of 1999 alumna with a Master of Business Administration, will induct the new graduates into UHV’s alumni and start the singing of the university’s alma mater.
