UHV ready to welcome visitors to campus for Jaguar Day

The University of Houston-Victoria is preparing to welcome visitors, including prospective students and their families, on Feb. 9 for the final Jaguar Day of the 2018-2019 school year.

Jaguar Day is a come-and-go event that will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UHV’s Victoria campus. The event will begin with check-in at Jaguar Hall, 2705 Houston Highway. It is free and open to the public.

Oscar Torres

“Our overall goal during Jaguar Day is to help students paint a picture of what their time at UHV will be like,” said Oscar Torres, UHV manager of student recruitment for the Victoria and Rio Grande Valley areas. “It’s one thing to see pictures in a brochure or online and read about what a university has to offer, but we want these students to come and experience UHV for themselves.”

Once students and their families check in, they will have several different options to help them learn about UHV. In Jaguar Hall Commons, there will be an information fair with booths from some of the university’s offices, including Admissions & Student Recruitment, Career Services, Residence Life, Financial Aid, Student Life and the Testing Center. In addition, there will be representatives from student organizations.

To help prospective students see themselves attending UHV, the university will offer tours of campus and the university’s residence halls. Residence hall tours will be offered every 15 minutes and will showcase rooms in Jaguar Hall and Jaguar Suites. Campus tours will be offered throughout the day and will begin with shuttle rides from Jaguar Hall to the front of UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.

“The campus tours are popular because they help students see what kind of environment UHV offers,” Torres said. “Students have told us they enjoy seeing the classrooms and getting a feel for the small class sizes available at UHV. They also enjoy seeing our jaX statue and learning about UHV’s traditions.”

In addition, attendees are invited to enjoy lunch in the Jaguar Dining inside Jaguar Hall. Students who preregister will receive free lunch vouchers for themselves and two family members.

If students and families are unable to attend Jaguar Day, they still can sign up for a personalized campus or guided group tour on any weekday that the university is open. Students can request a tour at www.uhv.edu/visit/tour-campus to schedule a day and time convenient for them.
