20th Annual DeLeon Symposium To Focus on Immigration
The University of Houston-Victoria and the DeLeon Club of Victoria will present the 20th annual Martin DeLeon Symposium on the Humanities on Saturday, April 29. This year’s topic is “Immigration: Current Perspectives,” and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the Johnson Symposium Center on the Victoria College campus.
The featured speakers will be Juan Castillo, race and immigration reporter at the Austin American Statesman, and Dr. Nestor Rodriguez, professor and chair of the University of Houston Department of Sociology and co-director of the UH Center for Immigration Research. The two will discuss immigration trends and their impacts and implications, as well as immigration policy reform.
The DeLeon Club of Victoria was organized in 1965 and was named for the city’s founder, Martin DeLeon. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting business and encouraging civic participation to improve the quality of life in Victoria. The symposium is free and open to the public.
