Incoming dean leads by example in publishing papers before he starts

He isn’t on the payroll yet, but two papers set to be published are credited to the new dean of the University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration.
Farhang Niroomand (Knee-roo-mand), who will take the reins of the UHV School of Business Administration on Monday, recently had two papers accepted for publication in academic journals. Both papers bear his new UHV credentials, and were written about international economics and finance, the focus of Niroomand’s research.
“Distribution of Income and Expenditures Across Nations,” will be published in an upcoming edition of the Journal of Economics and Finance. “Capital Inflow and Outflow of Foreign Direct Investment by Economies” is tentatively scheduled for publication in the summer 2010 edition of the International Trade Journal.
“With the continuing growth of UHV, I hope to see our representation in academic journals grow,” Niroomand said. “A strong volume of quality scholarly papers is a key indicator of a quality faculty.”
UHV administrators said the advanced publication bodes well for the future of the school.
“I’m glad to see the dean is leading by example before he even officially becomes the dean,” UHV President Tim Hudson said. “His decision to reference UHV before he arrives is highly professional and gracious, and an indicator of the type of leadership I think we will see for the School of Business Administration under Dean Niroomand.”
Niroomand will fill a vacancy left by Charles Bullock, who accepted an appointment in May of 2008 as vice chancellor of academic affairs at Chapman University College in Orange, Calif. Interim Dean Jifu Wang, who ran the school during the nationwide search for a new dean, will return to teaching duties.
Niroomand was a professor at the University of Southern Mississippi and previously was associate dean and graduate program director for the university’s internationally accredited College of Business and chairman of the college’s Department of Economics and International Business.
He has published extensively in professional and academic journals, including Economic Development and Cultural Change, Economics Letters, Review of World Economics, Applied Economics and many others. He is a past editor of the Journal of Current Research in Global Business.
