UHV graduate newest assistant principal in Houston school district

The new assistant principal of Manford Williams Elementary School in Richmond is a two-time graduate from the University of Houston-Victoria.
Sara Dries earned her master’s degree in counseling in 2006 and her master’s degree in administration and supervision in 2007 from the UHV School of Education & Human Development after a few years as a classroom teacher.
“I felt the way to serve the kids better was to have someone in charge that loved them and was going to be an advocate for them,” Dries said, adding she loved her four years working as a classroom teacher in Stafford.
Prior to taking her current post, she served as a counselor/assistant principal at Stafford Primary School in the Stafford Municipal School District.
Her professors at UHV helped prepare her to take on a leadership role, she said.
“They were really instrumental in giving you the tools and the background you need in this kind of job, and if you had questions, they were really encouraging,” she said.
The course work also proved to be relevant to her daily duties.
“The class selection you had to take in order to get your degree was just a perfect match for what you witness in the real world,” she said.
Dries will start her new role July 25.
“We’re very proud to claim Ms. Dries as one of our graduates,” said Mary Natividad, interim dean of the UHV School of Education & Human Development. “She’s a credit to what someone can accomplish with drive, ambition and a quality education.”
