Local Graduates Named Outstanding Students at UHV Spring Commencement Ceremony
Of the 225 graduates at the University of Houston-Victoria spring commencement, six were recognized as the outstanding students of their class. The students were each presented with a plaque by UHV President Tim Hudson before the ceremony, who congratulated them on their hard work and accomplishment.
The School of Arts and Sciences selected two Victoria residents as its outstanding students. Karen Pearce earned recognition for her work towards a bachelor of science in biology and was given the award for the outstanding undergraduate student. Candice Melzow, who completed a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, was recognized as the outstanding graduate student.
The School of Education and Human Development chose Carol Suggs of Bay City as its outstanding undergraduate student. Suggs earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a specialization in grades 4-8. The school also selected Sara Tones of Houston to receive honors as the outstanding graduate student in education. Tones received a master’s degree in counseling. Both Tones and Suggs maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout their time at UHV.
The outstanding undergraduate student award for the School of Business Administration went to Erin Canada of Lakeway, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. James Upchurch of Katy was recognized as the outstanding graduate student for his work earning a master’s degree in business administration.
Outstanding students are selected at each commencement to recognize the achievements of one undergraduate and one graduate student from each of the three schools at UHV. For more information, contact Markeda Wade at (361) 570-4350.
