Deer Park’s Cara Barnhart became the first freshman golf signee for the inaugural University of Houston-Victoria women’s golf program.
Barnhart is a two-year letter winner at Deer Park and holds a scoring average of 85. She just recently lost a sudden-death medalist playoff at the District 22-5A tournament. Barnhart paced the Lady Deer at the district tournament with a two-day 182 score.
“Cara’s distance and ability to compete on the course, will allow her to step in next year at UHV and contribute right away,” UHV golf coach Whitney Stromgren said in announcing the signing Monday. “Cara is very athletic and has amazing potential at the collegiate level.”
Barnhart is looking forward to beginning her collegiate career at UHV.
“I am excited to be part of the first women’s golf team at UHV next year,” Barnhart said. “I look forward to contributing to the success of the team in the coming years, and also attending UHV.”
Barnhart, who plans to major in Business Management, also played soccer in high school.
