UHV Exhibit Features Local Student Artists
Diverse in style and subject matter, the paintings range from close-up nature studies reminiscent of the work of Georgia O’Keefe to folk-life paintings that hint at the whimsy of Marc Chagall. However, all of these paintings were created a little closer to home: They are the work of Victoria College students enrolled in Karen Sikora’s art classes.
The exhibit, free and open to the public, features work done in acrylic and oil, as well as mixed media. On the final day of the exhibit, a reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at UHV. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the artists and ask about their work.
Featured artists include Ismael Valdez, Evangeline Flores, Shelly Tharp, Estefana Diaz, Denise McGuire, Haily Holmes, and E. Mojica Kidder, all of Victoria, and Sarah King of Inez.
A number of the paintings are available for purchase, with 20 percent of the proceeds to benefit the VC Student Art Association. For more information or to purchase work, contact art instructor Karen Sikora at (361) 573-3291, ext. 3239.
