UHV business school to offer BBA in Cinco Ranch

KATY - The University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration will expand its business degree offerings in the fall to include the Bachelor of Business Administration program at the University of Houston System at Cinco Ranch.

The Cinco Ranch campus is a teaching center created to meet the educational needs of the Katy and West Houston region by offering courses from three University of Houston System universities: UH, UHV and UH-Clear Lake. The University of Houston-Downtown will no longer offer courses in Cinco Ranch, concentrating instead on providing courses at the new Northwest Houston teaching center.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer this program to Katy-area residents,” said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. “UHV provides our students with an internationally accredited education that prepares them for success in today’s global economy. Offering the BBA program at a convenient location like UHSCR is just another way we’re striving to help our students achieve their educational goals.”

The BBA program in Cinco Ranch will offer five areas of concentration: accounting, finance, general business, management and marketing. This program is intended for upper-level undergraduate students transferring from other institutions with at least 54 semester credit hours.

“It’s a popular major because it creates opportunities in so many different sectors,” said Rosie McCusker, manager of student recruitment and marketing for the UHV School of Business Administration. “BBA majors can establish careers in sectors as varied as human resources management, healthcare and accounting.”

In 2007, UHV began offering a BBA program at the University of Houston System at Sugar Land. Enrollment there grew to more than 400 students this spring. McCusker is anticipating the same rate of expansion for the BBA program starting this fall in Cinco Ranch.

“To help students transfer into the program, we have partnered with Houston Community College, Lone Star College and Wharton Community College,” she said. “In addition to taking classes here in Katy, students can take classes at the Sugar Land campus, online or through a combination of formats. The courses also will be offered in the evenings to accommodate our part-time students who work during the day. Because the program gives students such a broad range of choices, we’re expecting it to grow quickly.”

The general public is invited to attend an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. June 30 at UHS at Cinco Ranch, 4242 S. Mason Road in Katy. Advisers from all programs of study will answer questions, and prospective students can tour the facility.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 80 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
