Temporary crosswalk under construction on Ben Wilson Street

Construction workers install poles and wiring Wednesday for one of two temporary crosswalks on Ben Wilson Street between the University of Houston-Victoria University Commons student center and library, and the rest of campus. The crosswalk is intended to allow pedestrians to cross the street safely by pressing a button to halt oncoming traffic. When not activated, the lights will remain off so traffic can continue. The university plans to have the crosswalk working by April 3. The Ben Wilson Street project is in the early design phase. The university, in conjunction with the City of Victoria, plans to have the construction completed by fall 2022, according to Matt Alexander, UHV director of capital projects.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 80 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development.
