UHV golfers to swing into action
The University of Houston-Victoria continues to break new ground as the men’s and women’s golf programs prepares to participate in its inaugural event in Seguin.
The Jaguars men will be participating in the Texas Lutheran John Bohmann Memorial Invitational, while the women will take part in the TLU Lady Bulldogs Fall Classic. The men’s tournament will be held at Max Starcke Municipal Golf Course, while the women’s event will be held at the Golf Club of Seguin.
UHV head golf coach Brian Williamson is looking forward to taking both teams to the Jaguars inaugural event.
“I know we haven’t had a lot of time to work together, but I want them to get some tournament pressure before the spring season,” Williamson said. “A lot of what we have been working on is course management and it will give me an opportunity to see how well they are adapting to what I’m trying to teach them.”
Representing the men’s team for the Jaguars will be James Price, a junior from Buckingham, England; Cory Anderson, a junior from Keller; Travis Chritzberg, a junior from Longview; Austin Griffin, a junior from Cuero; and Jon Moore, a freshman from Corpus Christi. Price is a transfer from Western Texas, while Anderson transfers from Ranger College and Chrietzberg transfers from Texarkana College.
Comprising the Jaguars women’s team will be Whitley Patterson, a junior from Meridian; Morgan Desive, a junior from Corpus Christi; Lyndie Smith, a sophomore from Flower Mound; Larissa Loredo, a sophomore from Yoakum; and Devon Dueser, a freshman from Yorktown.
Patterson and Desive are transfers from McLennan Community College and come to UHV after leading the Highlassies to a second-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships last year. Smith transfers from Texarkana College and Loredo from UT-Brownsville.
The men’s event will tee off Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and play 36 holes the first day and finish the event with an 18-hole final round on Tuesday.
The women’s event is 18 holes each day with progressive tee times. The Jaguars are expected to begin teeing off around 9:30 a.m.
