Two job fairs to guide, give leads to education job seekers

Two upcoming job fairs hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria will help education job hunters make contacts and career choices.
UHV Career Services is sponsoring Education Job Fairs from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in Victoria and 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the UH System at Cinco Ranch. Both fairs are free and open to the public.
The Victoria event will be in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. The UH System at Cinco Ranch is located at 4242 S. Mason Road in Katy.
“This is a good way for students nearing the completion of their education degree to make contacts and find out what certification will be needed,” said Eunice Mesa, Career Services coordinator. “Many school districts are experiencing budget shortages, so they will only hire those students who are certified to teach the courses they need.”
Mesa said 12 school districts from the Victoria and greater Houston areas will be represented at the job fairs.
“While spring is the prime hiring season for school districts, this is an excellent opportunity for students to begin putting their name out there,” Mesa said.
In addition, students can attend a “Life After College” discussion at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center. Students can hear from three panelists about career options and their district’s projections for instructor needs. The panelists will represent large, medium and small area school districts.
Job-seekers do not need to register for the job fairs but are encouraged to bring copies of their resume to hand to prospective employers. Those attending also are invited to meet with representatives from the UHV School of Education & Human Development to discuss graduate education options.
Exhibitors should register by Tuesday through the Career Services website at http://www.myinterfase.com/uhv/employer/.
